Julie defends accused individuals against institutions, including state and federal governments, as well as colleges and universities. She also represents clients who have been seriously injured by law enforcement in violation of their civil rights.
Stressed, scared, and uncertain are feelings clients relate in their initial conversation after being charged with a crime, accused of a Title IX violation, or seriously injured by police. Julie understands many have never hired an attorney or faced legal trouble. She listens to her clients and discusses the often misunderstood realities of defending a criminal or university case or suing law enforcement for a client’s serious injuries.
Julie works tirelessly and creatively to achieve her clients’ desired outcomes. Julie is respected by judges and adversaries in state and federal courts, and both know that she will not back down when faced with unanticipated obstacles. She carefully considers when to exercise litigation strategies and confidentially presses her adversaries to protect her client’s rights.
Julie’s trial results have earned the respect of the legal community. A passionate trial attorney, some of her greatest victories are when trial or even criminal charges are avoided because of a dismissal of an indictment, a favorable plea bargain, or representation during an investigation.
Julie also proudly represents indigent clients and commits to defending several federal felony cases annually as a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) attorney with the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.
Julie had the privilege to serve as a federal law clerk to the late Honorable Gary L. Sharpe for the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. In addition to her robust federal practice, Julie remains actively involved with the Northern District of New York and has served as a committee co-chair with its Federal Bar Association, a Special Master in a complex civil case, a committee member overseeing the CJA panel, and a member of the nominating committee for the most recent appointment for the United States Magistrate Judge.
