Personal Injuries Increase in Winter

Personal InjuryClimbing a ladder can be a dangerous task, and in the winter there are numerous reasons to do so, including hanging holiday lights and removing snow from the roof.  Each year, there are more than 164,000 emergency room treated injuries and 300 deaths that are caused by ladder falls. If you are working on faulty equipment, these statistics will only increase.

Click here to learn more about ladder safety guidelines and follow these tips this winter to stay safe while prepping and enduring the deep freeze:

Holiday Lights:

  • Be sure to test the lights you wish to hang before you climb onto the ladder.
  • Also make sure you have enough lights and light clips for the desired area.
  • Safely climb the ladder and only carry a little bit of the lights and clips at a time to ensure safety.
  • Hang the lights in the same direction and if there is no gutter to hang the lights off, simply clip the lights to shingles.

Removing Snow:

  • Use a snow rake for removing snow off pitched roofs.
  • Keep gutters and drains clean, free of ice and snow and keep downspouts clean.
  • Try to leave a few inches of snow on the roof. If the roof is scraped clean it can cause damage to your shingles or roof covering.
  • Start from the edge and work your way into the roof.
